How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet every day for 21 days, then have a 7-day break.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water, around the same time each day. Follow the arrows on the pack.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling down, mood changes
  • Headache
  • Feeling sick (nausea), stomach pains
  • Sore or painful breasts
  • Gaining weight
RARE
  • Fluid build-up in the body
  • Decreased or increased desire for sex
  • Migraine headaches
  • Being sick (vomiting), diarrhea
  • Skin rash, itchy bumps on the skin (hives)
  • Breasts getting bigger
  • Harmful blood clots, for example: in a leg or foot (deep vein thrombosis), in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), heart attack, stroke, temporary stroke-like symptoms (TIA), blood clots in the liver, stomach, kidneys, or eye
  • Allergic reactions
  • Problems with contact lenses
  • Skin reactions (such as red or lumpy skin)
  • Discharge from breasts or vagina
  • Losing weight

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have or have had a blood clot in a leg, lung, or elsewhere in your body.
  • Do not use if you have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
  • Do not smoke, especially if you are over 35, as this raises the risk of blood clots.
  • Tell your doctor if you have serious conditions like severe diabetes, very high blood pressure, high blood fat levels, certain cancers, or severe liver disease.

  • Do not use if you are allergic to desogestrel, ethinylestradiol, or any other ingredient in Mercilon.
  • Mercilon does not protect against HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted diseases.
