How to Use

Dosage

Your dentist will decide the right dose based on your procedure, age, weight, and general health. The smallest amount that works should be used.

Method

It is given as a slow injection into the mouth.

Important

The dentist will determine the maximum dose for you, ensuring the lowest effective dose is used. For children, the dose should be carefully controlled.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
RARE
  • Rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, gums, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing, wheezing, asthma, or hives. These can be signs of an allergic reaction.
  • Pain from nerve damage, burning or tingling around the mouth, or numbness in or around the mouth.
  • Dizziness, spinning sensation, shaking, seizures, confusion, restlessness, balance problems, drowsiness, or trouble thinking.
  • Cardiac arrest, fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, slow or fast heart rate, low or high blood pressure, or increased blood flow.
  • Shortness of breath, unusually slow or fast breathing, or yawning.
  • Nausea, vomiting, mouth or gum sores, swelling of the tongue, lips, or gums, metallic taste, distorted taste, loss of taste, or excessive salivation.
  • Blurred vision, difficulty focusing, double vision, temporary blindness, pupil changes, drooping eyelid, ringing in ears, or sensitivity to noise.
  • Heavy sweating, muscle twitching, chills, feeling hot, tiredness, weakness, feeling of euphoria (extreme happiness), or nervousness.
  • Voice changes (hoarseness), or swelling or pain at the injection site.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to mepivacaine or other similar numbing medicines.
  • Do not use if you have severe heart problems with electrical signal issues.
  • Do not use if your epilepsy is not well-controlled by treatment.
  • Do not use for children under 4 years old or weighing less than 20 kg.
  • Tell your dentist if you have heart disease, severe anemia, high or low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, a nerve disorder called porphyria, high blood acidity, poor blood circulation, or generally poor health.

  • Tell your dentist if there is inflammation or infection at the injection site.
  • Avoid eating or chewing gum until feeling returns to prevent biting your lips, cheeks, or tongue.
  • You might feel dizzy or tired after the injection. Do not drive or use machines until you feel normal again (usually within 30 minutes).
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a baby, talk to your dentist. It's best to avoid this medicine during pregnancy if possible. Breastfeeding mothers should wait 10 hours after the injection before feeding.
