How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 75 to 225 IU per day, injected under the skin. Your doctor will adjust the dose based on your response, up to a maximum of 450 IU per day.

Method

Menopur is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneously), usually in your abdomen. The first injection will be given by your doctor or nurse.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 450 IU.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain or swelling
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain, redness, swelling, itching, or bruising at the injection site
RARE
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Fluid-filled cysts in the ovaries (ovarian cysts)
  • Breast discomfort (e.g., pain, tenderness, swelling, nipple pain)
  • Hot flashes
  • Acne
  • Vision problems
  • Fever
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Weight gain
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Ovarian twisting (torsion) due to ovarian hyperstimulation
  • Hives
  • Blood clots due to ovarian hyperstimulation
  • Fluid accumulation in the abdomen, pelvis, or chest (severe OHSS symptom)
  • Difficulty breathing (severe OHSS symptom)
  • Decreased urine output (severe OHSS symptom)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to menotropin or any other ingredient in Menopur.
  • Do not use if you have tumors in your uterus, ovaries, breasts, or certain parts of your brain (pituitary gland or hypothalamus).
  • Do not use if you have fluid-filled cysts or enlarged ovaries, unless it is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
  • Do not use if you have structural problems with your uterus or other reproductive organs.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.

  • Do not use if you have benign growths in the uterus (fibroids).
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Call your doctor right away if you have signs of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), such as belly pain or swelling, feeling sick, diarrhea, weight gain, trouble breathing, or urinating less.
  • Call your doctor right away if you get a rash, itching, or swelling of your throat and difficulty breathing (signs of an allergic reaction).
