How to Use

Dosage

Typical dose is 75–225 IU per day, as directed by your doctor.

Method

The medicine is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) with a pre-filled pen, usually into the stomach area.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 450 IU. Your doctor will determine the exact dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • headache
  • nausea
  • abdominal pain or swelling
  • pelvic pain
  • pain, redness, swelling, itching, and bruising at the injection site
RARE
  • vomiting
  • abdominal discomfort
  • diarrhea
  • tiredness
  • dizziness
  • fluid-filled ovarian cysts
  • breast problems (pain, tenderness, discomfort, swelling, nipple pain)
  • hot flashes
  • acne
  • vision problems
  • fever
  • feeling unwell
  • weight gain
  • muscle and joint pain
  • ovarian twisting due to hyperstimulation
  • hives
  • blood clots due to ovarian hyperstimulation

Important Warnings

  • Watch for severe abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, weight gain, trouble breathing, or less urination, as these can be signs of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). Contact your doctor right away.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to menotropin or any other ingredient, or if you develop a rash, itching, throat swelling, or difficulty breathing.
  • Do not use if you have tumors in your uterus, ovaries, breasts, or brain, or if you have ovarian cysts (not related to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) or enlarged ovaries.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Be aware of an increased risk of blood clots, especially if you are overweight, have a blood clotting disorder, or have a family history of blood clots. Tell your doctor if this applies to you.
