How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 75-225 IU per day, adjusted by your doctor.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin. Your doctor or nurse will show you how to mix the powder with the liquid and inject it. Clean the injection site, gently pinch the skin, inject at a 90-degree angle, then massage gently afterwards.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 450 IU per day, but it may be lower (225 IU) depending on your treatment. Your doctor will specify your limit.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Abdominal bloating (swollen belly)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), which is when your ovaries overreact to the treatment
  • Reactions at the injection site (like pain, redness, bruising, swelling, or itching)
RARE
  • Vomiting (throwing up)
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Dizziness
  • Ovarian cysts (fluid-filled sacs on ovaries)
  • Breast problems (including pain, tenderness, discomfort, nipple pain, or swelling)
  • Hot flashes
  • Acne
  • Rash
  • Vision problems
  • Fever
  • Malaise (general feeling of being unwell)
  • Allergic reactions (signs like skin rash, itching, swollen throat, or trouble breathing)
  • Weight gain
  • Muscle and joint pain (like back, neck, arm, or leg pain)
  • Ovarian torsion (twisting of the ovary)
  • Itching
  • Hives (itchy red welts on skin)
  • Blood clots (in blood vessels)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Menopur if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have certain tumors in your uterus, ovaries, breasts, or brain.
  • Do not use if you have ovarian cysts (fluid-filled sacs) or enlarged ovaries, unless it's due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Tell your doctor right away if you get severe stomach pain, a swollen belly, feel sick (nausea) or throw up (vomiting), have diarrhea, gain weight quickly, have trouble breathing, or pee less. These could be signs of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), which can be serious.
  • This medication can increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the womb), miscarriage, having multiple babies (like twins or triplets), or birth defects.
  • There's a higher risk of blood clots with fertility treatments, especially if you are very overweight or have a family history of blood clots. Tell your doctor if this applies to you.
