How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 0.5–2 mg, taken 30–60 minutes before bedtime.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth. You can crush the tablet and mix it with water before taking.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 5 mg, regardless of age. Always use the lowest effective dose.

Possible Side Effects

  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., itching, trouble breathing, swelling of face, mouth, tongue, chest pain)
  • Mood or mental changes (e.g., irritability, nervousness, restlessness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, bad dreams, feeling sad or depressed, memory issues, trouble focusing, confusion)
  • Migraine, dizziness, or feeling sick (nausea, vomiting)
  • Stomach problems (e.g., pain, indigestion, dry mouth, mouth sores, gas, acid reflux)
  • Skin or hair changes (e.g., rash, itching, dry skin, night sweats, eczema, shingles, psoriasis, nail problems)
  • Pain in arms, legs, neck, or joints, muscle cramps
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., low white blood cells, low platelets, abnormal salt levels, high fat levels, high liver enzymes, high blood pressure, yellowing of skin/eyes)
  • Vision problems (worsened or blurry vision, increased tearing)
  • Urinary or reproductive issues (e.g., more urination, needing to urinate at night, blood in urine, painful lasting erection, prostate inflammation, abnormal breast milk discharge (even in men), increased sex drive)
  • Hot flashes, weight gain, feeling weak or tired, thirst, sugar or too much protein in urine

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Mellozzan if you are allergic to melatonin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, liver or kidney problems, an autoimmune disease (where your body attacks itself), or epilepsy, as this medicine might affect these conditions.
  • If you are a woman who can get pregnant, you must use effective birth control during treatment.
  • Do not give this medicine to children younger than 6 years old.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel drowsy.

  • Smoking can make this medicine less effective.
