Melatonin Aspire

This medicine contains melatonin, a hormone your body makes to control your sleep-wake cycle. It's used to treat short-term jet lag in adults and long-term sleep problems (insomnia) in children and teenagers (6-17 years old) with ADHD.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults with jet lag, take 1-5 ml (1-5 mg) daily. For children (6-17 years old) with ADHD-related insomnia, the starting dose is 1-2 ml (1-2 mg) daily, adjusted as needed up to 5 ml (5 mg).

Method

Take the dose once a day. For jet lag, take it at your usual bedtime upon arrival at your destination. For children, take it 30-60 minutes before bedtime. Do not take it between 8 PM and 4 AM at your destination (for jet lag).

Important

Do not take more than 5 ml (5 mg) per day. For jet lag, do not use for more than 5 days.

  • Allergic reactions like trouble breathing or itching; severe swelling of face, tongue, or throat (angioedema); difficulty swallowing; hives; swelling of mouth and tongue.
  • Irritability, nervousness, restlessness, insomnia (trouble sleeping), abnormal dreams, nightmares, anxiety, mood changes, aggression, agitation, crying, stress, confusion, early awakening, depressed mood, increased libido.
  • Migraine, sluggishness, increased physical activity, dizziness, fainting, impaired memory, attention problems, dream-like state, poor sleep quality, restless legs syndrome, tingling sensation.
  • Vision problems including blurred vision, watery eyes, dizziness (vertigo), dizziness when standing/sitting.
  • High blood pressure, feeling heartbeats (palpitations), chest pain from angina, hot flashes.
  • Stomach ache, upper belly pain, indigestion, mouth sores, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abnormal bowel sounds, gas, too much saliva, bad breath, tummy discomfort, inflammation of the stomach lining, acid reflux, stomach/bowel discomfort, mouth blisters, tongue ulcers.
  • Skin rash, night sweats, itching, dry skin, abnormal skin sensation (paresthesia), skin conditions (e.g., eczema, redness, psoriasis), nail problems.
  • Arm and leg pain, joint inflammation (arthritis), muscle spasms, neck pain, night cramps.
  • Glucose in urine, excess protein in urine, passing large amounts of urine, blood in urine, needing to urinate at night, prolonged and painful erection, prostate inflammation, menopausal symptoms, milk leakage from breasts (also in men).
  • Chest pain, weakness (asthenia), feeling unwell, abnormal liver tests, weight gain, high blood sugar, drowsiness, sedation, tiredness, pain, thirst.
  • Changes in blood makeup (e.g., low white blood cells, low platelets), yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), high levels of certain fats (triglycerides) in blood, abnormal electrolyte levels in blood (e.g., sodium, potassium, calcium).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to melatonin or any of its other ingredients.
  • If you have epilepsy, talk to your doctor, as melatonin might increase seizures.
  • If you have an autoimmune disease (where your body attacks its own immune system), talk to your doctor.
  • If you have diabetes or issues with blood sugar control, this medicine might raise your blood sugar levels.
  • If you have severe liver or kidney problems, consult your doctor.

  • Smoking can make this medicine less effective.
  • If you are a woman who could become pregnant, use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 18 for jet lag, or to children under 6 for ADHD.
  • This medicine can cause sleepiness and reduce alertness. Do not drive or operate machines after taking it.
  • This medicine contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause an allergic reaction (possibly delayed).
