How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your individual dose. For adults, the typical maintenance dose is 100-200 micrograms daily.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once daily in the morning on an empty stomach (at least 30 minutes before breakfast) with a small amount of liquid, such as half a glass of water. For infants, the tablet can be crushed and mixed with a small amount of water just before giving.

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined by your doctor, but it can be up to 300 micrograms.

Possible Side Effects

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Chest pain

  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Flushing (warmth and redness in the face)
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Changes in menstrual cycle
  • Increased fluid pressure in the skull (pseudotumor cerebri)
  • Tremor

  • Sleep problems
  • Sweating
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin rash
  • Hives
  • Swelling of the face and throat (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Medithyrox if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Medithyrox if you have an untreated adrenal or pituitary gland problem, uncontrolled overactive thyroid, or an acute heart condition like a heart attack or heart inflammation.
  • Do not use Medithyrox for weight loss. Increasing the dose without your doctor's advice can cause serious, even life-threatening, side effects.
  • Always tell your doctor about all other medicines, supplements (especially biotin), or soy products you use, as they can affect how Medithyrox works. Do not change your dose or stop taking Medithyrox without talking to your doctor.
