How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose, typically 100-200 micrograms daily for adults, but it varies based on your condition.

Method

Take Medithyrox by mouth once a day in the morning on an empty stomach, at least half an hour before breakfast, with a small amount of liquid.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 300 micrograms, but your doctor will set your appropriate maximum based on your needs.

Possible Side Effects

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Headache
  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Flushing (warmth and redness in the face)
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Menstrual cycle disorders
  • Pseudotumor cerebri (increased fluid pressure in the brain)
  • Tremor
  • Restlessness
  • Sleep disorders
  • Sweating
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Allergic reactions like rash, hives, or swelling of the face or throat (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have untreated adrenal or pituitary gland problems, or an uncontrolled overactive thyroid.
  • Do not take if you have an acute heart condition like a heart attack or an inflamed heart.
  • Do not use with anti-thyroid medicines if you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems like angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or hardened arteries; these conditions need to be controlled before starting Medithyrox.

  • Do not use Medithyrox for weight loss, as it is not effective if your thyroid hormone levels are normal and can cause serious side effects if the dose is too high.
  • Do not take high doses of Medithyrox with certain weight loss medicines, as this can lead to very serious side effects.
  • Inform your doctor or lab staff if you are taking biotin (Vitamin H, B7, or B8) before any thyroid hormone tests, as it can affect results.
