How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose based on tests, but adults typically take 100–200 micrograms daily.

Method

Take one dose by mouth every morning on an empty stomach, at least half an hour before breakfast, with a small amount of liquid. For small children, crush the tablet and mix with a small amount of water just before giving it.

Important

The maximum daily dose varies depending on the condition being treated, but is generally up to 300 micrograms.

RARE
  • Allergic skin reactions (rash, hives)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have untreated adrenal or pituitary gland problems, or an untreated overactive thyroid.
  • Do not take if you have an acute heart condition like a heart attack or inflammation.
  • If you are pregnant, do not take Medithyrox with other medicines that stop your thyroid from working.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems like chest pain, heart failure, fast or irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or hardened arteries. These conditions must be managed before you start Medithyrox.

  • Do not use Medithyrox for weight loss. It will not help you lose weight if your thyroid hormone levels are normal and can cause serious side effects if taken in high doses.
  • Do not stop taking Medithyrox suddenly or change your dose without talking to your doctor. Stopping treatment can cause your symptoms to return.
  • If you take too much medicine, contact a doctor or emergency services immediately.
