How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact dose based on your condition. Doses often start low and are gradually increased. Typical daily doses range from 25 to 200 micrograms for most conditions.

Method

Take one tablet by mouth once a day in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast, with a small glass of water.

Important

Your doctor will set your maximum daily dose. It can be up to 300 micrograms for specific conditions, as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat

  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Flushing (warmth and redness of the face)

  • Increased fluid pressure in the brain (pseudotumor cerebri)

RARE
  • Allergic reactions such as skin rash, hives, and swelling of the face or throat (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Medithyrox if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not use Medithyrox if you have untreated problems with your adrenal or pituitary glands, or if your thyroid gland makes too much hormone (called thyrotoxicosis).
  • Do not use Medithyrox if you have an acute heart condition like a heart attack or heart inflammation.
  • Do not use thyroid hormones, including Medithyrox, for weight loss if your thyroid hormone levels are already normal. This can cause serious side effects.
  • If you are pregnant, do not take Medithyrox with medicines that stop your thyroid from making hormones.

  • Talk to your doctor before taking Medithyrox if you have any heart problems like chest pain, heart failure, fast or irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, or hardened arteries. These conditions must be under control before you start treatment.
