Medithyrox contains levothyroxine, a man-made thyroid hormone used to treat thyroid diseases and disorders, working just like your body's own thyroid hormone.
Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and tests. It often starts low and increases gradually. For adults, typical maintenance doses range from 100-200 micrograms daily.
Take Medithyrox by mouth once a day, in the morning on an empty stomach (at least half an hour before breakfast), preferably with a small amount of liquid, like half a glass of water. For infants, crush the tablet just before use, mix with a small amount of water, and give it to the child at least half an hour before their first feeding.
The maximum daily dose for some conditions, such as preventing tumor growth in thyroid cancer, can be up to 300 micrograms.
Suitable for older adults. Calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and aluminium reduce absorption. (updated 6.11.2023)
