How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual ongoing dose is 100-200 micrograms once a day, as adjusted by your doctor.

Method

Take one dose by mouth once a day in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast, with a small amount of water.

Important

The highest daily dose for certain conditions can be up to 300 micrograms, but always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

  • Flushing (warmth and redness in the face)

  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Rash
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin)
  • Swelling of the face and throat (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredients in Medithyrox.
  • Do not take if you have untreated problems with your adrenal or pituitary glands, or if you have an untreated overactive thyroid (too much thyroid hormone).
  • Do not take if you have a sudden heart problem, like a heart attack or inflammation of the heart.
  • Do not use thyroid hormones for weight loss. Taking more than prescribed can cause serious or life-threatening side effects, especially if mixed with certain weight-loss drugs.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems like chest pain (angina), heart failure, fast or uneven heartbeat, high blood pressure, or hardened arteries; these must be managed before you start treatment.

  • Tell your doctor or lab staff if you are taking or recently took biotin (also called Vitamin H or B7), as it can affect your thyroid test results.
