How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 10 mg; if you take propranolol or have kidney or liver disease, use 5 mg.

Method

Open the blister pack with dry hands, place the tablet on your tongue where it will dissolve with saliva, and swallow it; you can take it without water if you feel sick.

Important

Do not take more than two doses within 24 hours, with at least two hours between doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness
  • Tingling, headache, reduced skin sensitivity (numbness), decreased mental alertness, trouble sleeping
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats (palpitations)
  • Flushing (temporary redness of the face)
  • Discomfort in the throat
  • Nausea, dry mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach
  • Feeling of heaviness in parts of the body, neck pain, stiffness
  • Stomach or chest pain
RARE
  • Bad taste in mouth
  • Unsteady walking, severe dizziness (vertigo), blurred vision, shaking, fainting
  • Confusion, nervousness
  • High blood pressure, thirst, hot flashes, sweating
  • Rash, itching, hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue and/or throat (angioedema), trouble breathing
  • Feeling of tightness in parts of the body, muscle weakness
  • Changes in heart rhythm or rate (arrhythmia), abnormal heart electrical activity (ECG changes), very fast heartbeats (tachycardia)
  • Facial pain, muscle pain
  • Wheezing
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Stroke (often in patients with heart disease risk factors)
  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
  • Heart attack, spasms in heart blood vessels (often in patients with heart disease risk factors)
  • Serotonin syndrome (can cause unconsciousness, unstable blood pressure, very high body temperature, lack of muscle coordination, anxiety, and hallucinations)
  • Severe skin peeling, possibly with fever (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Seizures
  • Blood vessel narrowing in limbs, including coldness and numbness in feet and hands
  • Spasms in large intestine blood vessels, which can cause stomach pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to rizatriptan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe high blood pressure, heart problems (like heart attack or chest pain), severe liver or kidney disease, or a history of stroke or mini-stroke.
  • Do not use if you are taking MAO inhibitors (for depression) or certain other migraine medicines (like sumatriptan, ergotamine, or methysergide). Wait at least two weeks after stopping MAO inhibitors.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, family history of heart disease, if you are a man over 40, or a post-menopausal woman.
  • Only use this medicine for migraine attacks, not for other headaches that could be a sign of a more serious condition.

  • Taking this medicine too often can lead to chronic headaches; contact your doctor if this happens.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 18 years old.
  • If you are breastfeeding, wait 12 hours after taking the medicine before feeding your baby.
  • This medicine contains aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine. This may be harmful for people with phenylketonuria (PKU).
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines if this happens.
