How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, which is adjusted individually and may vary daily.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. You can divide the tablet into two equal doses if needed.

Important

Do not exceed the daily dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Mild bleeding, such as nosebleeds or gum bleeding, bruising, blood in urine, black or bloody stools, heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
RARE
  • Coumarin necrosis (skin tissue death).
  • "Blue toe" syndrome (hot, bluish-red rash on feet and toes).
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash).
  • Temporary increase in liver enzymes, bile problems.
  • Blood vessel inflammation.
  • Temporary hair loss.
  • Persistent erection (usually at the start of treatment).
  • Tracheal calcification.
  • Small pieces of cholesterol break off from blood vessel walls and block small blood vessels.
  • Worsened kidney function with strong anticoagulation and blood in urine (anticoagulation-related nephropathy).

Important Warnings

  • You have a bleeding disorder or problems with your blood platelets.
  • You have severe liver disease or liver cirrhosis.
  • You have untreated high blood pressure.
  • You have recently had a brain hemorrhage.
  • You have a tendency to fall.

  • You have recently had or will soon have brain or eye surgery.
  • You have inflammation of the heart or fluid around the heart.
  • You have had severe bleeding in your stomach, intestines, or urinary tract, or you have pouches in your large intestine (diverticula).
  • You are allergic to warfarin sodium or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • You have an overactive or underactive thyroid.
  • You have heart failure that suddenly worsens (with increased swelling or shortness of breath).
  • You have liver insufficiency or hepatitis.
  • You have kidney failure.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience unusual bruising, nosebleeds or gum bleeding, blood in urine or stools, vomiting blood, or unusually heavy/prolonged menstrual bleeding, as these can be signs of too much medication effect.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
