How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact dose based on your symptoms; treatment usually starts with a small dose taken multiple times a day, which is then gradually increased.

Method

Take the medicine half an hour before or one hour after a meal. Tablets can be swallowed whole, divided, crushed, or chewed. Capsules should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid. Soluble tablets should be dissolved in half a glass of water and taken within 30 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose; do not exceed the prescribed amount.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite.
  • Discoloration of saliva, tongue, teeth, or mouth lining.
  • Loss or change of taste.
  • Dizziness (when standing up quickly).
  • Itching and skin rash.
  • Restless legs.
  • Discolored urine.
  • Depression, anxiety, insomnia, increased drowsiness.
RARE
  • Changes in blood cell counts (seen in blood tests).
  • Agitation (restless movements), sudden sleep attacks during the day, hallucinations, delusions, confusion, disorientation, and dopamine dysregulation syndrome (overuse of medicine).
  • Uncontrolled movements and sudden changes in movement ability, or changes in how well the medicine works (with long-term use).
  • Irregular heart rhythm.
  • Liver problems (found in lab tests) and increased urea levels in blood.
  • Strong urge to gamble, increased sexual interest or behavior, uncontrolled spending or shopping, binge eating or compulsive eating.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levodopa, benserazide, soy, peanuts (for certain forms), or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe hormone disorder (like overactive thyroid) or certain mental illnesses.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (a type of eye disease).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are under 25 years old.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking a combination of MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitors (other types of medications).
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness or sudden sleep. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you and if these symptoms stop.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice unusual behaviors, such as strong urges to gamble, overeat, spend excessively, or have increased sexual thoughts/desires, as these can be side effects.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause serious side effects.
