How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you exactly how much Madopar to take; doses vary and are usually started small and increased gradually.

Method

Take 30 minutes before a meal or one hour after. Tablets can be swallowed whole, split, crushed, or chewed. Swallow capsules whole with liquid. Quick tablets should be dissolved in half a glass of water and drunk within 30 minutes.

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

  • Discolored saliva, tongue, teeth, or mouth lining
  • Liver changes detected by laboratory tests

  • Increased urea in blood
  • Strong urges to gamble
  • Overeating (eating large amounts of food quickly or more than needed)
  • Overspending (uncontrolled and excessive shopping/spending)

  • Temporary sudden sleep attacks during the daytime

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Madopar if you are allergic to levodopa, benserazide, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart problems.
  • Do not take if you have a severe endocrine disease (e.g., overactive thyroid) or certain mental illnesses.
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (high eye pressure).
  • Do not take if you are under 25 years old.

  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take if you are taking a combination of MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitors.
  • If you are allergic to peanuts or soy, do not use Madopar depot capsules.
  • Tell your doctor if you have open-angle glaucoma, stomach ulcers, or bone softening disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had malignant melanoma (skin cancer).
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have surgery.
  • This medicine can cause you to have strong urges to do things that could be harmful, like gambling, overeating, or increased sexual interest. Tell your doctor if this happens.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive or operate machines if this happens.
  • Do not stop taking Madopar suddenly, as this can cause serious side effects. Always talk to your doctor first.
