How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose, usually between 150 mg and 600 mg per day.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water, by mouth. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 600 mg per day unless your doctor tells you to.

  • Loss of appetite, weight loss, low or high blood sugar
  • Changes in how you see yourself, restlessness, depression, agitation, mood changes, trouble finding words, seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), unusual dreams, panic attacks, not caring (apathy), aggression, feeling too happy, mental problems, trouble thinking, increased sex drive, sexual problems (like not being able to have an orgasm or delayed ejaculation)
  • Vision changes (like tunnel vision, flashes of light), abnormal eye movements, jerky eye movements, weaker reflexes, hyperactivity, dizziness when standing up, sensitive skin, loss of taste, burning feeling, shaking, reduced consciousness, passing out, fainting, increased sensitivity to noise, feeling unwell
  • Dry eyes, swollen eyes, eye pain, worse vision, watery eyes, irritated eyes
  • Irregular heartbeat, fast heart rate, low or high blood pressure, changes in heart rhythm, heart failure
  • Hot flashes, flushing
  • Breathing problems, dry nose, stuffy nose
  • More saliva, heartburn, numbness around the mouth
  • Sweating, rash, chills, fever
  • Muscle twitches, joint swelling, stiff muscles, pain (e.g., muscle pain, neck pain)
  • Chest pain
  • Trouble or pain when urinating, leaking urine
  • Weakness, thirst, chest tightness
  • Changes in blood and liver tests (e.g., increased muscle enzymes, liver enzymes, decreased platelets, low white blood cells, increased creatinine, low potassium)
  • Allergic reactions (face swelling, itching, hives, runny nose, nosebleed, cough, snoring)
  • Painful periods
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Changes in smell, seeing objects sway, changes in depth perception or brightness of vision, vision loss
  • Dilated pupils, cross-eyed
  • Cold sweats, tight throat, swollen tongue
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Slow or reduced movements
  • Difficulty writing
  • Fluid in the belly or lungs
  • Seizures
  • ECG changes related to heart rhythm problems
  • Muscle damage
  • Breast discharge, abnormal breast growth, breast growth in men
  • Missed periods
  • Kidney failure, less urine, trouble emptying bladder
  • Lower white blood cell count
  • Feeling unrestrained, self-harming behavior, suicidal thoughts
  • Severe allergic skin reactions (e.g., red target-like patches, blisters, peeling skin, sores in mouth/throat/nose/genitals/eyes), sometimes with fever or flu-like symptoms (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Parkinson-like symptoms (tremor, slow movements, stiffness)
  • Liver failure
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • Dependence on Lyribastad
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Lyribastad if you are allergic to pregabalin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Seek medical help right away if you get swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash. These could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Stop taking Lyribastad and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any severe skin reactions, like red spots, blisters, or peeling skin (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Lyribastad can cause dizziness and drowsiness, which may increase the risk of falls, especially in older people. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision, vision loss, or any other changes in your vision, as these are usually temporary.

  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while taking Lyribastad, your diabetes medicine may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had heart disease before taking Lyribastad, as heart failure has been reported in some patients, especially older ones.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice less urination during treatment, as kidney failure has been reported.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, as these have been reported in patients taking epilepsy medicines like Lyribastad.
  • Tell your doctor if you have constipation, especially if you are prone to it, as Lyribastad with certain pain relievers can cause stomach problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, as you may be at higher risk of dependence on Lyribastad. If you are concerned about dependence, talk to your doctor.
  • Seizures have occurred during or soon after stopping pregabalin. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience seizures.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe medical condition like liver or kidney disease, as impaired brain function has been reported in some patients taking pregabalin with other underlying conditions.
  • Contact your doctor if you have difficulty breathing or shallow breathing, especially if you have nervous system problems, respiratory problems, kidney failure, or are over 65 years old.
  • This medicine is not for children and adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Lyribastad should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it. Use effective contraception if you are a woman who can become pregnant.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and affect your concentration. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Addiction may develop. (updated 14.4.2025)
