How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually between 150 mg and 600 mg daily.

Method

Take capsules whole with water, exactly as your doctor tells you. You will take it either twice or three times a day. If twice, take one in the morning and one in the evening. If three times, take one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. Try to take it at the same times each day.

Important

The maximum typical dose is 600 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, headache.
  • Increased appetite.
  • Feeling overly happy, confusion, feeling disoriented, lower sex drive, irritability.
  • Trouble focusing, clumsiness, poor memory, memory loss, shaking, difficulty speaking, tingling or numbness, feeling sleepy or tired, trouble sleeping, unusual feelings.
  • Blurry vision, double vision.
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation), balance problems, falls.
  • Dry mouth, constipation, vomiting, gas, diarrhea, nausea, bloated stomach.
  • Difficulty getting an erection.
  • Swelling, including in arms and legs.
  • Feeling drunk, unusual way of walking.
  • Weight gain.
  • Muscle cramps, joint pain, back pain, limb pain.
  • Sore throat.
RARE
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss, low blood sugar, high blood sugar.
  • Changed self-image, restlessness, depression, agitation, mood swings, trouble finding words, seeing or hearing things that aren't there, unusual dreams, panic attacks, apathy, aggression, feeling very happy, mental problems, trouble thinking, increased sex drive, problems with sex (like not being able to have an orgasm or delayed ejaculation).
  • Vision changes, unusual eye movements, tunnel vision, flashes of light, twitching, weak reflexes, hyperactivity, dizziness when standing up, sensitive skin, loss of taste, burning feeling, shaking when moving, feeling less alert or passing out, fainting, increased sensitivity to noise, feeling unwell.
  • Dry eyes, swollen eyes, eye pain, blurry eyesight, watery eyes, irritated eyes.
  • Irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, changes in heart rhythm, heart failure.
  • Hot flashes, redness.
  • Trouble breathing, dry nose, stuffy nose.
  • More saliva, heartburn, numbness around the mouth.
  • Sweating, rash, chills, fever.
  • Muscle twitching, swollen joints, stiff muscles, muscle pain, neck pain.
  • Chest pain.
  • Trouble or pain when peeing, leaking urine.
  • Weakness, thirst, tight feeling in the chest.
  • Changes in blood and liver test results.
  • Allergic reactions, facial swelling, itching, hives, runny nose, nosebleed, cough, snoring.
  • Painful periods.
  • Cold hands and feet.
  • Changed sense of smell, seeing things shake, altered depth perception, brighter vision, vision loss.
  • Large pupils, crossed eyes.
  • Cold sweat, tight feeling in your throat, swollen tongue.
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Trouble swallowing.
  • Slow or reduced movements.
  • Trouble writing.
  • Fluid buildup in the belly.
  • Fluid in the lungs.
  • Seizures.
  • Changes in heart tests (ECG) related to abnormal heart rhythm.
  • Muscle damage.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pregabalin or any other ingredients in it.
  • If you get an allergic reaction like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or a widespread rash, seek medical help right away.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you develop serious skin reactions like severe rash.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness, which might make you fall, especially if you are older. Be careful until you know how it affects you.
  • This medicine may cause blurry vision or vision loss. Tell your doctor right away if your vision changes.

  • If you have diabetes and gain weight while taking this medicine, your diabetes medication might need to be adjusted.
  • If you have a spinal cord injury and take other medicines for pain or muscle spasms, this medicine might make some side effects, like drowsiness, worse.
  • Some older patients with heart disease have reported heart failure while taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you have any heart problems before starting this medicine.
  • Kidney problems have been reported. If you notice less urination while taking this medicine, tell your doctor.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor right away.
  • If you take this medicine with other drugs that cause constipation (like some pain medicines), you might have stomach problems. Tell your doctor if you have constipation.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol or drugs, as you might have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.
  • Seizures have happened during or soon after stopping this medicine. If you have a seizure, contact your doctor right away.
  • Brain function problems have been reported in some patients with other serious illnesses. Tell your doctor if you have a serious illness like liver or kidney disease.
  • Breathing problems have been reported. If you have a nervous system, breathing, or kidney disease, or are over 65, your doctor might change your dose. Contact your doctor if you have trouble breathing or shallow breaths.
