How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually starting at 37 mg once a day. The daily dose can range from 18.5 mg to 148 mg for adults, or 37 mg to 74 mg for youth.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it once a day at the same time, with or right after food, to help your body absorb it better.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 148 mg. For youth (13-17 years), the maximum daily dose is 74 mg.

  • Increased levels of a muscle enzyme (creatine phosphokinase) in blood tests

  • Slurred speech
  • Nightmares
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Sudden anxiety or panic attacks
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Chest pain
  • Temporary fainting or loss of consciousness
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Slow or irregular heartbeat
  • Joint, back, or muscle pain (excluding common muscle stiffness)
  • Trouble walking or stiff posture
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., hormones, blood sugar, liver/kidney function)
  • Low blood pressure when standing up, which can cause fainting
  • Cold symptoms or flu
  • Hot flashes
  • Blurred vision or trouble focusing eyes
  • Increased sweating
  • Painful or difficult urination, frequent urination, or kidney problems
  • Uncontrolled movements of the mouth, tongue, or limbs (tardive dyskinesia)
  • Low sodium levels in blood, causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma
  • Lack of energy (lethargy) or feeling unwell
  • Gas or bloating
  • Erection problems, sexual dysfunction, or ejaculation problems
  • Painful or missed periods
  • Reduced red blood cell count
  • Severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) with muscle pain, nausea, confusion, abnormal heart rate, and dark urine
  • Swelling under the skin (angioedema) or hives
  • Stroke or similar brain event
  • Breast pain or milk discharge from breasts
  • Newborn babies may have symptoms like agitation, changes in muscle tone, trembling, drowsiness, breathing, or feeding problems (if mother used this medicine in late pregnancy)
  • Abnormal breast growth
  • Thyroid problems (underactive thyroid or inflammation)
  • Aggressive or impulsive behavior
  • Confusion or feeling detached from reality
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't real)
  • Thoughts of harming others
  • Memory problems
  • Unusual skin sensations (pins and needles)
  • Jaw pain or toothache
  • Hair loss or abnormal hair growth
  • Uncontrolled sounds and movements (Tourette's syndrome)
  • Chills or fever
  • Decreased hemoglobin or white blood cells in blood tests
  • Suicidal thoughts or intentional self-harm

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lurasidone or if you are taking certain medicines for fungal infections, HIV, or depression (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole, rifampicin, nefazodone, St. John's Wort).
  • It may take several days or even weeks for this medicine to work fully.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thoughts of harming yourself or if your behavior changes.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you get a high fever, stiff muscles, sweating, confusion, or uncontrollable movements of your face or body.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have heart problems, a family history of irregular heartbeat, or a history of blood clots.

  • Be aware that combining this medicine with certain antidepressants or strong painkillers can cause a life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can affect how it works and increase side effects.
  • This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or vision problems. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as your symptoms may return.
