How to Use

Dosage

Typically, adults start with one 24 mg/26 mg or 49 mg/51 mg tablet twice a day (one in the morning, one in the evening). Your doctor will adjust the dose every 2-4 weeks until the best dose is found, usually aiming for one 97 mg/103 mg tablet twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not break or crush the tablets.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is one 97 mg/103 mg tablet twice a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or lightheadedness
  • High potassium levels in your blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Worsened kidney function or kidney failure
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia, seen in blood tests)
  • Tiredness
  • Low potassium levels in your blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Headache
  • Fainting
  • Weakness
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness or fainting when standing up from sitting or lying down
  • Stomach inflammation (stomach pain, nausea)
  • Feeling lightheaded
  • Low blood sugar levels (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Allergic reaction with rash and itching
  • Dizziness when standing up from sitting (postural dizziness)
  • Low sodium levels in your blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • Changes in sleep patterns (sleep disturbance)
  • Paranoia
  • Swelling in the intestines with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea (intestinal angioedema)
  • Sudden involuntary muscle twitching

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Lumivaxon and get help right away if you notice swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can make it hard to breathe or swallow. This could be a serious allergic reaction called angioedema.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can seriously harm your baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not take Lumivaxon if you are currently taking or have recently taken an ACE inhibitor (another heart medicine). You must wait 36 hours after your last dose of an ACE inhibitor before starting Lumivaxon.
  • Lumivaxon can cause very low blood pressure, making you feel dizzy or faint. Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, take other medicines for blood pressure, or experience vomiting or diarrhea, especially if you are over 65 or have kidney problems.
  • This medicine can cause high potassium levels in your blood or affect your kidney function. Your doctor will check these with blood tests.
