How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one 24 mg/26 mg or 49 mg/51 mg tablet twice a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose, and the usual target dose is 97 mg/103 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not split or crush the tablets.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 97 mg/103 mg taken twice a day (one tablet in the morning and one in the evening).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness and light-headedness.
  • High potassium levels in the blood (shown in blood tests).
  • Impaired kidney function.
  • Cough.
  • Dizziness.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Reduced red blood cell count (anemia, shown in blood tests).
  • Fatigue.
  • Acute kidney failure.
  • Low potassium levels in the blood (shown in blood tests).
  • Headache.
  • Fainting.
  • Weakness.
  • Nausea.
  • Low blood pressure when standing up from sitting or lying down (dizziness, light-headedness).
  • Gastritis (stomach pain, nausea).
  • Low blood sugar (shown in blood tests).
RARE
  • Allergic reaction with rash and itching.
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (shown in blood tests).
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there).
  • Sleep disturbances.
  • Paranoia.
  • Swelling of the intestines (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Lumivaxon or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using an ACE inhibitor. Wait 36 hours after your last ACE inhibitor dose before starting Lumivaxon.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction called angioedema (swelling of the face, throat, or other body parts).
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or poor kidney function and are taking a blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.

  • Do not use this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine on your own if you experience stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; talk to your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, take other blood pressure medicines, or if you have vomiting or diarrhea, especially if you are over 65 or have kidney disease.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, are dehydrated, or have a narrowed kidney artery.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience hallucinations, paranoia, or changes in your sleep patterns.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia).
  • Tell your doctor if you have very severe heart failure (you cannot do any physical activity comfortably).
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 1 year of age.
  • Stop using Lumivaxon and seek immediate medical help if your face, lips, tongue, and/or throat swell, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. This could be angioedema.
