How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 40 mg capsule twice a day, in the morning and late afternoon/evening. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water.

Important

Do not take more than 80 mg (two 40 mg capsules) in a day, unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, dry mouth, or constipation
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling anxious
  • Headache, dizziness, or drowsiness
  • Numbness, tingling, or shaking
  • Blurred vision
  • High blood pressure or flushing
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, or heartburn
  • Increased sweating
  • Muscle twitching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling agitated or decreased sex drive
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with trouble breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face/tongue
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, causing dizziness, weakness, confusion, or seizures
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, mania, or aggression
  • Serotonin syndrome (muscle jerks, agitation, hallucinations, fever, nausea, diarrhea)
  • Seizures or sudden uncontrolled muscle movements
  • Feeling restless or unable to sit or stand still
  • Increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
  • Liver problems, including yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (blisters on skin, mouth, eyes)
  • Difficulty urinating, urinating more often, or painful urination
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding or very heavy bleeding after childbirth
  • Signs of stress cardiomyopathy (chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat)
  • Throat tightness or nosebleeds
  • Cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath with a high fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Loxentia if you are allergic to duloxetine or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you are using certain other medicines like MAO inhibitors, fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin, or enoxacin. Always tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
  • Talk to your doctor if you take other medicines for depression, migraines (triptans), mental health conditions, or buprenorphine, as this can cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
  • Avoid taking St. John's Wort (a herbal remedy) with Loxentia.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, seizures, a history of mania or bipolar disorder, glaucoma (high eye pressure), or bleeding problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Loxentia is not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Loxentia can cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • If you have a sugar intolerance (like sucrose), tell your doctor.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to a hospital immediately.
