How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 40 mg capsule twice a day, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon or evening. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose of 20 mg twice a day for two weeks before increasing it.

Method

Take the capsule by mouth, swallow it whole with water.

Important

Do not take more than the prescribed daily dose of Loxentia. The maximum is typically 80 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, dry mouth, constipation
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sleep problems, feeling agitated
  • Decreased sex drive, anxiety, insomnia
  • Headache, dizziness, feeling sluggish, drowsiness, shaking, numbness or tingling in skin
  • Blurred vision, spinning sensation
  • High blood pressure, hot flashes
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, heartburn
  • Increased sweating
  • Weakness, muscle tremors
RARE
  • Sore throat with hoarseness, allergic reactions, underactive thyroid (tiredness, weight gain)
  • Dehydration, teeth grinding, feeling confused or disoriented, lack of motivation, difficulty or inability to have an orgasm, unusual dreams
  • Nervousness, difficulty concentrating, changes in taste, poor sleep, large pupils, vision problems, dry eyes
  • Ringing in the ears, ear pain, heart palpitations, fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, increased yawning
  • Vomiting blood or black, tarry stools, stomach inflammation, mouth sores, burping, difficulty swallowing, gas, bad breath
  • Liver inflammation (stomach pain, yellow skin/eyes), itchy rash, night sweats, hives, cold sweats, easy bruising
  • Muscle pain, stiffness, spasms, jaw muscle tightness
  • Difficulty starting urination, painful urination, urinating at night, increased urination, unusual urine smell
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding, menopausal symptoms, chest pain, feeling cold, thirst, feeling hot
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, dizziness, swollen tongue/lips)
  • Low sodium in blood (dizziness, weakness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, falls)
  • Thoughts of suicide, mania (overactivity, racing thoughts, less need for sleep), aggression or anger
  • Serotonin syndrome (involuntary muscle twitches, agitation, hallucinations, coma, sweating, tremors, stiff muscles, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Seizures, muscle jerks, restlessness, difficulty sitting still, coordination problems, restless legs syndrome
  • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • Dizziness upon standing up, cold fingers/toes
  • Tightness in throat, nosebleeds
  • Cough, wheezing, shortness of breath with high fever
  • Bright red blood in stools, colon inflammation (diarrhea)
  • Liver failure (jaundice), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe skin/mouth/eye/genital blisters), sun sensitivity, muscle twitching
  • Difficulty or inability to pass urine, frequent need to empty bladder, reduced urine flow
  • Menstrual problems (heavy, painful, irregular, prolonged, short, missed periods), abnormal breast milk production, severe vaginal bleeding after childbirth, falls (especially in elderly), abnormal walking
  • Inflammation of blood vessels in skin (cutaneous vasculitis)
  • Stress cardiomyopathy (chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Loxentia if you are allergic to duloxetine or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease or severe kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you are currently using or have used MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days.
  • Do not take if you are currently using fluvoxamine (for depression) or ciprofloxacin/enoxacin (for infections).
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure or heart disease.

  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other medicines for depression, migraines, or pain, or St. John's Wort, as these combinations can be dangerous (Serotonin Syndrome risk).
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of seizures, mania, bipolar disorder, glaucoma (high eye pressure), bleeding disorders, or risk of low sodium levels.
  • Loxentia can cause restlessness or inability to sit still; contact your doctor if this occurs.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, seek medical help immediately.
  • Loxentia is not for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor; Loxentia is generally not recommended during breastfeeding and requires careful consideration during pregnancy due to potential risks to the baby.
  • This medicine can cause drowsiness or dizziness; do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • If you have sugar intolerance, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
