How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for most adults is one 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets or one 100 mg/25 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • cough, upper respiratory infection, stuffy nose, sinus infection
  • diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, indigestion
  • muscle aches or cramps, leg pain, back pain
  • insomnia, headache, dizziness
  • weakness, tiredness, chest pain
  • increased potassium levels (may cause irregular heartbeats), decreased hemoglobin levels
  • changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • too low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
RARE
  • liver inflammation, abnormal liver function tests
  • swelling of the intestines, with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • This medicine is for you only. Do not give it to anyone else.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to certain other medicines (sulfonamides), such as thiazides.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you have too little potassium or sodium, or too much calcium in your blood, and treatment does not help.

  • Do not use if you have gout.
  • Do not use if you are more than three months pregnant or planning to get pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney disease or if your kidneys do not produce any urine.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney disease and are taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • If you have had skin cancer or get new skin changes, tell your doctor. Protect your skin from the sun during treatment, as this medicine may increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • Avoid alcohol as it can increase the effects of this medicine.
  • Avoid too much salt in your diet, as it can reduce the medicine's effectiveness.
  • Avoid foods and drinks with licorice (glycyrrhizin), as they can affect your blood salt levels.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice during treatment.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience a severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of the face or difficulty breathing) or sudden and severe breathing difficulties.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
