How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for most high blood pressure patients is one Losatrix Comp 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two Losatrix Comp 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets or one Losatrix Comp 100 mg/25 mg tablet once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough, common cold, blocked nose, sinus infection.
  • Diarrhea, stomachache, feeling sick, upset stomach.
  • Muscle pain or cramps, leg pain, back pain.
  • Trouble sleeping, headache, dizziness.
  • Weakness, tiredness, chest pain.
  • Increased potassium levels (can cause abnormal heart rhythm), decreased hemoglobin levels, changes in kidney function including kidney failure, low blood sugar.
RARE
  • Anemia, red or brownish spots on the skin (sometimes with joint pain, swelling, stomach pain), bruising, low white blood cell count, blood clotting problems, low platelet count.
  • Loss of appetite, increased uric acid or clear gout, high blood sugar, electrolyte imbalance.
  • Anxiety, nervousness, panic disorder (repeated panic attacks), confusion, depression, abnormal dreams, sleep disturbances, drowsiness, memory loss.
  • Tingling or numbness, limb pain, tremor, migraine, fainting, blurred vision, burning or stinging in the eyes, conjunctivitis, decreased vision, yellow vision, ringing, buzzing, or clicking in the ears, vertigo.
  • Low blood pressure (may be related to position, causing confusion or weakness when standing), chest pain with exertion (angina pectoris), abnormal heart rhythms, mini-stroke (TIA), stroke, heart attack, palpitations, blood vessel inflammation (often with rash or bruising).
  • Sore throat, shortness of breath, bronchitis, pneumonia, fluid in the lungs (causing breathing difficulties), nosebleed, runny nose, blocked nose.
  • Constipation, severe constipation, flatulence, stomach problems, stomach cramps, vomiting, dry mouth, salivary gland inflammation, toothache, jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin), pancreatitis, intestinal angioedema (swelling of the intestines with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea).
  • Hives, itching, skin inflammation, rash, skin redness, sensitivity to light, dry skin, blushing, sweating, hair loss, skin lesions (cutaneous lupus erythematosus).
  • Pain in arms, shoulders, hips, knees, or other joints, joint swelling, stiffness, muscle weakness.
  • Frequent nighttime urination, abnormal kidney function including kidney inflammation, urinary tract infection, sugar in urine, decreased sex drive, impotence.
  • Swelling of the face, local swelling (edema), fever.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), abnormal liver function tests.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark (tea-colored) urine (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Low blood sodium levels (hyponatremia).
  • General feeling of being unwell (malaise).
  • Taste disorders (dysgeusia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, any other ingredients in this medicine, or other sulfonamide medicines.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have low potassium or sodium levels, or high calcium levels that do not improve with treatment.
  • Do not take if you have gout.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant (it is also best to avoid this medicine in early pregnancy).

  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems or if your kidneys do not produce any urine.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience decreased vision or eye pain. These could be signs of fluid buildup in the eye or increased pressure, which could lead to permanent vision loss if not treated.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had breathing problems or lung issues after taking hydrochlorothiazide. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe shortness of breath after taking Losatrix Comp.
  • Tell your doctor if you have previously experienced swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had skin cancer or if you notice any unexpected skin changes during treatment. Long-term use of hydrochlorothiazide can increase the risk of certain skin and lip cancers. Protect your skin from sun and UV rays.
  • Talk to your doctor if you experience stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after taking Losatrix Comp. Do not stop taking Losatrix Comp on your own.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
