How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is one 50 mg tablet once a day. For children aged 6-18 years weighing 20-50 kg, the starting dose is 0.7 mg per kg once daily, up to 25 mg.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water. Try to take it at about the same time every day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly from lying or sitting
  • Weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • Reduced red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Increased urea, creatinine, and potassium in the blood (in heart failure patients)
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems
  • Feeling your heart beat fast (palpitations)
  • Chest pain (angina pectoris)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Local swelling (edema)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of face, lips, throat causing difficulty swallowing or breathing)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis, including Henoch-Schönlein purpura)
  • Numbness or tingling sensation (paresthesia)
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Very fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Stroke
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema), with symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Increased ALAT enzyme levels in the blood (usually returns to normal after stopping treatment)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, and it's best to avoid during early pregnancy too.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema) before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe vomiting or diarrhea causing a lot of fluid or salt loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrowing or blockage of the blood vessels to your kidneys, or if you recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure with kidney problems or dangerous heart rhythm problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking potassium supplements, salt substitutes with potassium, or other medicines that can increase potassium levels in your blood.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
