How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Take the tablets whole with water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets or one 100 mg/25 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough, upper respiratory infection, stuffy nose, sinus inflammation
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, indigestion
  • Muscle pain or cramps, leg pain, back pain
  • Insomnia, headache, dizziness
  • Weakness, tiredness, chest pain
  • Increased potassium levels (which can cause abnormal heart rhythm), decreased hemoglobin levels
  • Changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face, lips, throat or tongue, difficulty breathing or swallowing)
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, confusion)
  • Anemia, red or brown spots on skin (sometimes with joint pain, swelling of hands/feet/abdomen), bruising, low white blood cells or platelets, clotting problems
  • Loss of appetite, increased uric acid or gout, high blood sugar, electrolyte imbalance
  • Anxiety, nervousness, panic attacks, confusion, depression, unusual dreams, sleep problems, drowsiness, memory problems
  • Tingling or numbness, limb pain, tremor, migraine, fainting
  • Blurred vision, burning or stinging eyes, conjunctivitis (pink eye), decreased vision, yellow vision
  • Ringing in ears, dizziness
  • Low blood pressure (especially when standing up, feeling dizzy or weak), chest pain (angina pectoris), irregular heartbeat, stroke, heart attack, palpitations
  • Inflammation of blood vessels, often with rash or bruising
  • Sore throat, shortness of breath, bronchitis, pneumonia, fluid in lungs (causing breathing problems), nosebleeds, runny or stuffy nose
  • Constipation, severe constipation, gas, stomach problems, cramps, vomiting, dry mouth, salivary gland inflammation, toothache
  • Jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin), pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas)
  • Hives, itching, skin inflammation, rash, skin redness, light sensitivity, dry skin, flushing, sweating, hair loss
  • Pain in arms, shoulders, hips, knees, or other joints, swollen joints, stiffness, muscle weakness
  • Frequent nighttime urination, abnormal kidney function including kidney inflammation, urinary tract infection, sugar in urine
  • Decreased sexual desire, impotence
  • Facial swelling, local swelling (edema), fever
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), abnormal liver function tests
  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in the intestine with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark (tea-colored) urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Low sodium levels in blood (hyponatremia)
  • General feeling of illness (malaise)
  • Taste disorder (dysgeusia)
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer)
  • Decreased vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure (possible signs of fluid accumulation in the choroid or acute angle-closure glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to other sulfonamide medicines (like some antibiotics).
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems or severe kidney problems and your kidneys do not make urine.
  • Do not take if you have low potassium or sodium levels, or high calcium levels that cannot be corrected by treatment.

  • Do not take if you have gout.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience decreased vision or eye pain, as these can be signs of serious eye problems that may lead to permanent vision loss.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue.
  • This medicine may increase your risk of skin and lip cancer. Protect your skin from sun and UV light while taking it.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine on your own if you experience stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; consult your doctor.
  • Do not give this medicine to children.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • If you have an intolerance to certain sugars (like lactose), talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
