How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dose.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water.

Important

Do not take more than two 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets or one 100 mg/25 mg tablet per day.

  • Cough
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Stuffy nose, sinus inflammation, sinus disorder
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Muscle aches or cramps, leg pain, back pain
  • Insomnia
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Chest pain
  • Increased potassium levels (which can cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Decreased hemoglobin levels
  • Changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat, which can cause difficulty breathing or swallowing)
  • Acute breathing problems (severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), abnormal liver function tests
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema) with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Non-melanoma skin and lip cancer
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark (tea-colored) urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Low blood sodium levels (hyponatremia)
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Taste disorder (dysgeusia)
  • Blurred vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure (possible signs of fluid accumulation in the choroid of the eye or acute angle-closure glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredients in this medicine, or to certain antibacterial medicines.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if your blood potassium or sodium levels are too low, or calcium levels are too high, and treatment doesn't help.
  • Do not take if you have gout.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems or your kidneys do not produce urine.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine that contains aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue.
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light if you have had skin cancer or new skin changes during treatment, as this medicine may increase the risk of certain skin and lip cancers.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking this medicine, especially if you have a history of breathing problems related to hydrochlorothiazide.
  • Seek urgent medical attention if you experience decreased vision or eye pain, especially if you have a history of penicillin or sulfonamide allergy, as this could be a sign of fluid build-up in the eye or increased eye pressure.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
