How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for most people with high blood pressure is one Losartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Krka 50 mg/12.5 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you, with or without food.

Important

The most you should take in one day is two Losartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Krka 50 mg/12.5 mg tablets or one Losartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Krka 100 mg/25 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • cough, upper respiratory infection, stuffy nose, sinus infection, sinus problems
  • diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, upset stomach
  • muscle aches or cramps, leg pain, back pain
  • trouble sleeping, headache, dizziness
  • weakness, tiredness, chest pain
  • increased potassium levels (can affect heart rhythm), decreased hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells)
  • changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • very low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
RARE
  • liver inflammation (hepatitis), abnormal liver function tests
  • swelling in the intestine with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea (intestinal angioedema)
  • sudden severe breathing problems (acute respiratory distress) with symptoms like severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, and confusion
  • flu-like symptoms
  • low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia)
  • general feeling of being unwell (malaise)
  • skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer)
  • unexplained muscle pain with dark (tea-colored) urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • changes in taste (dysgeusia)
  • decreased vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure (possible signs of fluid buildup in the eye or acute angle-closure glaucoma)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction (like rash, itching, swelling of your face, lips, mouth, or throat, which makes it hard to swallow or breathe).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant or are trying to get pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems, a blocked bile duct, or severe kidney problems where your kidneys don't make any urine.
  • Do not take if you have low potassium or sodium, or high calcium levels that medical treatment cannot fix.
  • Do not take if you have gout.

  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are already taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • This medicine can slightly increase your risk of certain skin and lip cancers (non-melanoma skin cancer) if used for a long time. Protect your skin from sun and UV light.
  • If you have ever had breathing or lung problems (like inflammation or fluid in the lungs) after taking hydrochlorothiazide, seek immediate medical help if you get severe shortness of breath or trouble breathing after taking this medicine.
  • If you notice vision changes or eye pain, which could be signs of fluid buildup in the eye or high eye pressure, get medical help. If not treated, this could lead to permanent vision loss.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
