How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, typically one 50 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, preferably at the same time each day. The 50 mg tablet can be split.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Low blood sugar
  • High potassium levels in your blood
  • Changes in how your kidneys work
  • Low red blood cells (anemia)
RARE
  • Headache, sleepiness, or trouble sleeping
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, severe chest pain, or stroke
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Rash, itching, hives, or swelling of face, lips, or throat (angioedema)
  • Cough, muscle pain, flu-like symptoms, or changes in taste
  • Fainting or numbness/tingling sensation
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant (especially after the first 3 months) or trying to get pregnant.
  • Do not take if you have very severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe vomiting or diarrhea, or if you take diuretics (water pills) or are on a low-salt diet, as this can cause fluid and salt loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrowed kidney blood vessels or have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, especially with kidney problems or dangerous irregular heartbeats.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that can increase potassium in your blood, such as potassium supplements or certain diuretics.
  • Talk to your doctor if you get stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
