How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. Your doctor may adjust the dose based on your condition. For children (6-18 years, 20-50 kg), the starting dose is 0.7 mg/kg once daily, up to 25 mg.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take your medicine around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 150 mg once a day.

  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in the intestines with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea)

  • Pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis)
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Photosensitivity (skin sensitivity to light)
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)

  • Reduced platelet count

  • Severe muscle breakdown with dark urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low blood sodium (hyponatremia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant or plan to become pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had sudden swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe vomiting, diarrhea, or are taking water pills (diuretics), as this can lead to severe fluid or salt loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrowed blood vessels to your kidneys, have recently had a kidney transplant, or have reduced kidney function.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, heart valve problems, or a thickened heart muscle, or if you have coronary artery disease or a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines like ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril), especially if you have diabetes-related kidney problems, or aliskiren.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
