How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, usually one 50 mg tablet once a day. For heart failure, start with 12.5 mg once a day, then slowly increase.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time every day.

Important

The highest daily dose for high blood pressure is typically 100 mg. For heart failure, it's 150 mg.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you are trying to get pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had sudden swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe vomiting or diarrhea, or if you take diuretics (water pills) or follow a low-salt diet, which can lead to a lot of fluid loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrowed blood vessels to your kidneys or have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure with kidney problems or dangerous heart rhythm issues, heart valve problems, thick heart muscle, coronary artery disease, or have had a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a condition called primary hyperaldosteronism (too much aldosterone hormone).
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • Do not take potassium supplements, salt substitutes with potassium, or other medicines that increase potassium in your blood without talking to your doctor.

Category A
