How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose for adults is 50 mg once daily. For heart failure, it starts at 12.5 mg once daily and is gradually increased. For children 6-18 years, the dose depends on weight, starting at 0.7 mg/kg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes is usually 100 mg. For heart failure, it is 150 mg. For children aged 6-18, the maximum daily dose is 25 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, especially when standing up
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • High potassium levels in the blood
  • Changes in kidney function or reduced red blood cells (anemia)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face, lips, throat, or tongue, difficulty swallowing or breathing)
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems
  • Fast heartbeat or chest pain
  • Cough or shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Skin rash, itching, or hives (red, raised spots)
  • Local swelling (edema)
  • Numbness or tingling sensation
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Fainting
  • Swelling in the intestines with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant for more than 3 months, or planning to become pregnant. Losartan Orion can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have had sudden swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema) in the past.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe vomiting, diarrhea, or are taking diuretics, as this can lead to fluid and salt loss.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
