How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg once a day.

Method

Take with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 100 mg for high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, but can be up to 150 mg for heart failure.

Possible Side Effects

  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • High blood potassium (hyperkalemia)
  • Changes in kidney function, including kidney failure
  • Reduced red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Increased blood urea, creatinine, and potassium levels in heart failure patients

  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems
  • Feeling your heart beat fast (palpitations)
  • Chest pain (angina pectoris)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Local swelling (edema)
  • Cough
  • Hypersensitivity (severe allergic reactions)
  • Angioedema (swelling of face, lips, throat, or tongue)
  • Blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis)
  • Numbness or tingling sensation
  • Fainting
  • Very fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Stroke
  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in intestines with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Increased ALAT levels in blood (liver enzyme)
  • Decreased platelet count
  • Migraine
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Back pain and urinary tract infection
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark, tea-colored urine (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Low blood sodium (hyponatremia)
  • Depression
  • General feeling of unwellness (malaise)
  • Ringing, buzzing, roaring, or clicking in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Altered sense of taste (dysgeusia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to losartan or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you plan to become pregnant.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are using a blood pressure medicine containing aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).

  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe vomiting or diarrhea, or if you are taking water pills (diuretics) or eating a low-salt diet, as this can lead to serious fluid and salt loss.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrow blood vessels to your kidneys or have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that can increase potassium levels in your blood.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you get stomach pain, feel sick, vomit, or have diarrhea after taking Losartan Krka.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
