How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is one 50 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor might increase it to 100 mg once a day. For children (6-18 years old) weighing 20-50 kg, the starting dose is 0.7 mg per kg of body weight once daily, up to 25 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

Important

The highest daily dose for adults is 150 mg. For children, the highest dose is 25 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up too quickly
  • Low blood pressure
  • Tiredness or weakness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Stomach pain
  • Cough
  • Rash, hives, or itching
  • Swelling in parts of the body
  • Sleep problems or drowsiness
  • Fast heartbeat or chest pain (angina)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., low blood sugar, high potassium, kidney problems, fewer red blood cells)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., swelling of face, lips, throat that makes it hard to breathe or swallow)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels
  • Numbness or tingling sensation
  • Fainting
  • Very fast and irregular heartbeat
  • Stroke
  • Liver problems (e.g., inflammation or abnormal tests)
  • Low platelet count (can cause easy bruising or bleeding)
  • Migraine
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Back pain
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Unexplained muscle pain with dark urine
  • Impotence
  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Depression
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Taste changes

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Losarion if you are allergic to losartan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Losarion if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It's also best to avoid it early in pregnancy.
  • Do not take Losarion if you have severe liver problems or if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking another medicine called aliskiren for high blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue (angioedema).
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe vomiting or diarrhea, or if you take water pills (diuretics) or are on a low-salt diet, as this can cause too much fluid or salt loss from your body.
