How to Use
Dosage
Your doctor will tell you your dose. For anxiety, usually 2-3 mg daily in divided doses; for insomnia, 1-2 mg at bedtime. For elderly or weak patients, 1 mg daily in divided doses.
Method
Take the tablets with liquid, with or without food.
Important
The maximum daily dose is usually 7.5 mg.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Drowsiness, tiredness, feeling sleepy
- •Difficulty with movement coordination, confusion, feeling low, dizziness
- •Muscle weakness, lack of energy
RARE
- •Headache, feeling numb emotionally, vision problems (like seeing double, blurry vision)
- •Nausea, stomach upset, changes in appetite, skin rashes
- •Changes in sex drive, impotence (inability to get an erection), decreased orgasm
- •Changes in blood tests, temporary memory loss, jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes), liver problems
- •Severe allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing) - Seek immediate medical attention
- •Low sodium in the blood, low body temperature, involuntary movements, shaking, speech problems, seizures
- •Agitation, aggression, trouble sleeping, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts or attempts, balance problems, low blood pressure
- •Breathing problems, worsening sleep apnea, constipation, hair loss, drug abuse, dependence, or withdrawal symptoms
Important Warnings
- Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to lorazepam or other benzodiazepines.
- Avoid this medicine if you have sleep apnea, severe lung disease, severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), or severe liver disease.
- Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, chronic breathing difficulties, glaucoma, or a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
- Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the medicine's effects and cause strong drowsiness.
- This medicine can cause dependence. Always take the lowest possible dose for the shortest possible time.

- Do not drive or operate machinery, as this medicine can impair your reaction time and cause drowsiness.
- Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice, to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Use in Elderly Patients
Category C
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. For short-term use only. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 15.1.2024)
