How to Use

Dosage

Take one 2.5 mg tablet every day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water or another drink, at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than one 2.5 mg tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Vaginal bleeding or light spotting.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Gaining weight.
  • Breast pain.
  • Unusual hair growth.
  • Vaginal problems like unusual discharge, itching, or irritation.
RARE
  • Acne (pimples).
  • Feeling dizzy.
  • Headache.
  • Migraine (severe headache).
  • Feeling sad or down (depression).
  • Skin rash or itching.
  • Problems with vision.
  • Stomach or gut problems.
  • Swelling due to too much fluid in the body.
  • Pain in joints or muscles.
  • Changes in how the liver works.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Livial if you have or have had breast cancer, or if your doctor suspects it.
  • Do not use Livial if you have a cancer that needs estrogen to grow, such as cancer of the womb lining, or if it is suspected.
  • Do not use Livial if you have unexpected bleeding from your vagina that a doctor has not checked.
  • Do not use Livial if you have an untreated thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia).
  • Do not use Livial if you have or have had blood clots in your legs (deep vein thrombosis) or lungs (pulmonary embolism).

  • Do not use Livial if you have a blood clotting problem (like a lack of certain proteins in your blood).
  • Do not use Livial if you have or recently had a heart attack, stroke, or chest pain (angina).
  • Do not use Livial if you have or have had liver disease and your liver tests are not normal.
  • Do not use Livial if you have a rare, inherited blood problem called porphyria.
  • Do not use Livial if you are allergic to tibolone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Livial if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Contraindication: oestrogen-dependent cancer. In systemic use, bear in mind potential adverse effects, such as risk of cardiovascular diseases and venous thromboembolism. Consider potential interactions. (updated 21.10.2024)
