How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your specific dose based on your blood lithium levels. Do not change the dose on your own.

Method

Take the tablets with or without food. Drink at least one glass of water or other liquid with each dose. Take your medicine at the same time each day for the best effect.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. If you take too much, contact a doctor immediately.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling shaky, unsteady, or having weak muscles.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, or dry mouth.
  • Feeling very thirsty, urinating more often, or feeling tired.
  • Headache, memory problems, confusion, or difficulty concentrating.
  • Underactive or enlarged thyroid gland (goiter).
  • Acne-like rash or inflamed hair follicles.
RARE
  • Fainting spells or stiff muscles.
  • Changes in taste, increased saliva, or trouble focusing your eyes.
  • Overactive thyroid gland, weight changes, or high blood sugar.
  • Dizziness, extreme sleepiness, seizures, or reduced awareness.
  • Heart rhythm problems or Raynaud's syndrome (poor blood flow to fingers and toes).
  • Dry, sore, itchy skin, worsening psoriasis, or hair loss.
  • Difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you have kidney problems, severe heart disease, or problems with your body's salt and fluid balance.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as lithium can harm the baby.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a high fever, vomiting, severe diarrhea, or if you change your salt intake, as this can affect the medicine's levels in your body.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine contains castor oil, which may cause stomach upset or diarrhea.
