How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet once a day. Your doctor might increase this to two tablets a day if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of water. Try to take it at the same time each day, with or without food. Take this medicine daily as long as your doctor tells you, as it's for a long-term condition.

Important

The highest daily dose is 40 mg of lisinopril and 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Numbness, tingling, or color changes in fingers or toes
  • Stomach pain or indigestion
  • Rash, itching, or hives
  • Hair loss
  • Erectile problems
  • Extreme tiredness or weakness
  • Low blood pressure (can make you dizzy)
  • Anemia (tiredness, pale skin)
  • Confusion
  • Dry mouth
  • Swelling due to fluid retention
  • Low sodium levels (can cause weakness, headache, or muscle cramps)
  • Bone marrow problems or low blood cell count (can cause easy bruising, infections, or tiredness)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Swollen glands
  • Low blood sugar (can cause hunger, sweating, and a fast heartbeat)
  • Sudden breathing difficulties or wheezing
  • Inflammation of the lungs (pneumonia), which can cause shortness of breath
  • Pancreatitis (severe stomach pain)
  • Changes in kidney or liver test results
  • Fever
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lisinopril, hydrochlorothiazide, other ACE inhibitors, or sulfonamide medicines.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get a sudden swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can make it hard to swallow or breathe.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than three months pregnant or if you are trying to get pregnant.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney or liver disease, or if your kidneys are not making any urine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had breathing or lung problems after taking hydrochlorothiazide in the past, or if you get severe shortness of breath after taking this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken sacubitril/valsartan (used for heart failure), as this can increase the risk of severe swelling.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience vision problems or eye pain, as these can be signs of serious eye conditions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
