How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose for adults is 10 mg once a day; your doctor will tell you the right dose based on your condition.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 35 mg in some cases, but often 20 mg for high blood pressure.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or weakness, especially when standing up quickly
  • Diarrhea
  • Dry cough
  • Vomiting
  • Some kidney problems
RARE
  • Mood changes or seeing/hearing things that aren't real
  • Heart attack or stroke
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Changes in skin color (pale, blue, then red) or numbness/tingling in fingers/toes (Raynaud's disease)
  • Changes in taste or smell, dry mouth
  • Trouble sleeping or strange dreams
  • Nausea, stomach pain, or indigestion
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Erection problems
  • Feeling very tired or weak
  • High potassium or low sodium in your blood, or low red blood cells (anemia)
  • Confusion
  • Hair loss, psoriasis, or severe skin problems (like peeling skin)
  • Kidney failure or problems with urine (little to no urine production)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), or liver/pancreas problems
  • Low blood sugar
  • Wheezing or lung inflammation
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Sweating a lot
  • Fainting or symptoms of depression

Important Warnings

  • If you get swelling in your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or have trouble breathing, stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are allergic to lisinopril or similar medicines (ACE inhibitors).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes and are taking aliskiren, or if you are taking sacubitril/valsartan, as these combinations are not safe.
  • If you feel very dizzy or faint, especially after the first dose or a dose increase, lie down and contact your doctor.
  • A persistent dry cough may be a side effect; discuss it with your doctor.

  • Avoid potassium supplements and too much salt, as this can affect your blood pressure and potassium levels.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
