How to Use

Dosage

Typically, for high blood pressure, the starting dose is 10 mg once daily; for heart failure, 2.5 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with at least half a glass of water, ideally at the same time each day, with or without food, as long as your doctor prescribes it.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 35 mg, depending on your condition and your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up quickly
  • Diarrhea
  • Persistent dry cough
  • Vomiting
  • Kidney problems (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (angioedema): Sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (making it hard to swallow or breathe); severe swelling of hands, feet, or ankles; intense itching and hives.
  • Severe skin reaction: Unexpected itching and burning, with peeling skin.
  • Serious infection: Fever with severe general weakness, or fever with local infection signs like sore throat, mouth pain, or painful urination.
  • Mood changes
  • Numbness or tingling in fingers or toes, or color changes (pale blue turning red)

  • General tiredness
  • Dizziness (not related to standing up quickly)
  • Sleep problems
  • Stroke (blood clot in the brain)
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast or irregularly)
  • Runny nose

  • Impotence
  • Weakness
  • Significant drop in blood pressure (can cause dizziness, especially when standing up quickly), particularly with heart conditions.

  • Low sodium levels in the blood: May cause tiredness, headache, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Sinus inflammation
  • Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing)
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): Symptoms include feeling hungry, weak, sweating, and fast heartbeat.
  • Lung inflammation (pneumonia): With cough, shortness of breath, and fever.
  • Jaundice: Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.
  • Liver inflammation: Symptoms include loss of appetite, yellow skin/eyes, and dark urine.
  • Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas, causing moderate to severe stomach pain.
  • Severe widespread skin disease: With redness, blisters, and peeling skin.

  • Reduced or no urine output
  • Liver failure

  • Symptoms of depression

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lisinopril or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have previously had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) to an ACE inhibitor, which caused swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, tongue, or throat, leading to difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Do not use during pregnancy, especially after the first three months, as it can harm your baby.
  • Avoid if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren for high blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have recently taken sacubitril/valsartan for chronic heart failure, as it increases the risk of angioedema.

  • Consult your doctor if you develop a persistent dry cough after starting this medication.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or tiredness, so do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
