How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose depends on your condition. For high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes kidney problems, it usually starts at 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. For heart failure, it starts at 2.5 mg once daily. After a heart attack, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily. For children, the dose depends on weight, typically 2.5-5 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue taking it as long as your doctor tells you, as this is usually a long-term treatment.

Important

The maximum dose depends on your condition and your doctor's instructions, but the highest stated maintenance dose is 35 mg once daily.

  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Liver inflammation (loss of appetite, yellow skin/eyes, dark urine)
  • Pancreatitis (stomach pain)
  • Severe skin reactions (redness, blisters, peeling)

  • Less or no urine

  • Stomach flu (gastroenteritis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lisinopril or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have previously had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing) to another ACE inhibitor.
  • Do not take if you are taking or have recently taken sacubitril/valsartan, as it increases the risk of angioedema.
  • Do not take if a family member has had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) to an ACE inhibitor, or if you have had angioedema of unknown cause.
  • Do not take if you are more than three months pregnant (it's also best to avoid in early pregnancy).

  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren (a blood pressure-lowering medicine).
  • Tell your doctor if you get a persistent dry cough after starting this medicine.
  • Be aware that low blood pressure may cause dizziness or faintness, especially when standing up.
  • This medicine is not recommended in early pregnancy and must not be taken after the third month of pregnancy, as it can harm the baby.
  • Taking this medicine during allergy desensitization therapy can cause a severe allergic reaction.
  • Inform your doctor or dentist about taking this medicine before any surgery or dental procedures, as it can cause low blood pressure.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
