How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your exact dose, which depends on your condition. A common dose for high blood pressure is 20 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue taking it daily as long as your doctor tells you.

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up quickly
  • Diarrhea
  • Persistent dry cough
  • Vomiting
  • Kidney problems (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Mood changes
  • Fingers or toes changing color (pale blue, then red), or feeling numb or tingly
  • Changes in taste or smell
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy (spinning sensation), or having trouble sleeping
  • Fast heartbeat, or very low blood pressure making you feel dizzy or faint, especially when standing up
  • Skin rash, itching, hives, hair loss, or psoriasis (a skin condition)
  • Dry mouth
  • Breast enlargement in men
  • Changes in blood tests, which might cause tiredness, pale skin, sore throat, or fever
  • Low sodium levels in your blood, which can cause tiredness, headache, or nausea
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Sinus infection, wheezing, or lung inflammation (with cough, shortness of breath, fever)
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), causing hunger, weakness, sweating, or fast heart rate
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), or liver inflammation/failure
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), causing moderate to severe stomach pain
  • Severe skin problems, such as redness, blistering, or peeling
  • Reduced or no urination
  • Depression or fainting

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to lisinopril or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction (like swelling of hands, face, lips, tongue, or throat) to another ACE inhibitor.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking sacubitril/valsartan (a medicine for heart failure) as it increases the risk of severe swelling.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby. It is also not recommended in early pregnancy.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren (another blood pressure medicine).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
