How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose; the starting dose is usually 30 mg or 20 mg, which may be increased later.

Method

Take the medicine in the morning, before breakfast or with food. You can swallow the capsule whole with water, OR open the capsule and mix its contents with yogurt, water, or orange juice, then consume immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 70 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Insomnia.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Headache.
  • Agitation, nervousness, anxiety, depression, irritability, or mood swings.
  • Fatigue or restlessness.
  • Erectile dysfunction or changes in sex drive.
  • Dizziness.
  • Uncontrollable jerking, twitching, tremor, shaking, or unusual activity.
  • Difficult-to-control repeated jerking of body parts or repeating sounds and words (tics).
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (tachycardia).
  • High blood pressure.
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Constipation.
  • Weight loss.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism).
RARE
  • Fever.
  • Unusual talkativeness.
  • Depression, anxiety, low mood, or restlessness (dysphoria).
  • Unusual feeling of well-being or excitement (euphoria).
  • Compulsive skin picking.
  • Unusual drowsiness.
  • Itching, rash, or red, itchy bumps (hives).
  • Blurred vision.
  • Metallic taste in mouth or taste disturbance.
  • Fainting.
  • Nosebleed.
  • Severe allergic reaction, such as a drop in blood pressure, breathing difficulties, and hives.
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), paranoia, delusions (psychotic episodes).
  • Worsening of Tourette's syndrome, with uncontrollable twitches or repeated sounds and words.
  • Seizures (convulsions).
  • Abnormal heart rhythm, life-threatening arrhythmia.
  • Allergic liver damage, which may appear as yellowing of the whites of the eyes and/or skin.
  • Skin swelling (angioedema) or severe blistering rash (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Shortness of breath or swollen legs (signs of heart muscle disease).
  • Severely dilated pupils.
  • Aggression.
  • Poor blood circulation, causing numbness and pale fingers and toes (Raynaud's phenomenon).

Important Warnings

  • You are allergic to this medicine or its ingredients.
  • You are taking or have taken certain antidepressants (MAOIs) in the last two weeks.
  • You have thyroid problems.
  • You feel unusually excited, overactive, or uninhibited (mania).
  • You have or have had heart problems (e.g., heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, or a congenital defect).
