How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 and older is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, at any time of day, with or without food, but try to take it at the same time every day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, nosebleeds.
  • Mild allergic reactions.
  • Changes in blood sugar levels (both high and low).
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea, vomiting, belching, stomach pain.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, neck pain, muscle tiredness.
  • Abnormal liver test results, increased muscle enzyme levels in blood, positive white blood cell test in urine.
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain.
  • Nightmares, trouble sleeping.
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, reduced sense of touch or pain, changes in taste, memory loss.
  • Blurred vision, ringing in the ears or head.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (causing stomach pain), liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss.
  • Tiredness, feeling unwell, weakness, chest pain, swelling (especially in ankles), fever.
RARE
  • Vision problems.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Tendon injury.
  • Skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction), purplish skin lesions (vasculitis).
  • Hearing loss.
  • Breast enlargement in men.
  • Persistent muscle weakness, myasthenia gravis (a condition causing general muscle weakness), ocular myasthenia (a condition causing eye muscle weakness).
  • Sexual difficulties.
  • Depression.
  • Breathing problems, including persistent cough or shortness of breath.
  • New onset diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high fat levels, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have liver disease or unexplained abnormal liver test results.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • If you are a woman of childbearing age, do not take this medicine unless you are using reliable birth control.
  • Do not take if you are using glecaprevir/pibrentasvir to treat Hepatitis C.

  • If you are taking fusidic acid (an antibiotic), you must temporarily stop taking Liporion. Taking these together can cause severe muscle problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a stroke with bleeding in the brain.
  • Get urgent medical help if you have swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing, as these can be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Get urgent medical help if you have severe skin peeling, blistering, or a rash with fever, as these can be signs of a serious skin reaction.
  • Get urgent medical help if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, as these can be signs of serious muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Limit grapefruit juice intake to 1-2 small glasses per day, as large amounts can affect this medicine.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine.
