Liporion is a medicine called a statin, used to lower high levels of fats (lipids) in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides, when diet and lifestyle changes are not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 and older is 10 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food, but try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation in the nasal passages, sore throat, nosebleeds
  • Allergic reactions
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar)
  • Increased creatine kinase levels in blood
  • Headache
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea
  • Joint pain, muscle pain and back pain
  • Abnormal liver function test results
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing sudden wheezing, chest pain/tightness, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, breathing difficulties, collapse
  • Severe skin condition with severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blisters on the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, and fever. Rash with pinkish-red spots, especially on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, pain, muscle rupture, or reddish-brown urine. These symptoms, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, may be due to abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can be life-threatening and lead to kidney problems.
  • Unexpected or unusual bleeding or bruising, which may indicate liver problems. Contact your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Vision disturbances
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
  • Tendon injury
  • Skin rash or mouth sores (lichenoid drug reaction)
  • Purplish skin lesions (signs of inflammation of blood vessels, vasculitis)
  • Hearing loss
  • Gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in men)
  • Persistent muscle weakness
  • Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing general muscle weakness, in some cases affecting breathing muscles)
  • Ocular myasthenia (a disease causing muscle weakness in the eyes)
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, decreased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, carefully monitor your blood sugar)
  • Nightmares, insomnia
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in fingers and toes, reduced sensitivity to pain or touch, changes in taste, memory loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears and/or head
  • Vomiting, burping, upper and lower abdominal pain, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas causing stomach pain)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss
  • Neck pain, muscle fatigue
  • Fatigue, general discomfort, weakness, chest pain, swelling (especially in ankles), fever
  • Positive result in a white blood cell test from urine

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had liver problems or unexplained abnormal liver test results.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or are a woman of childbearing age not using reliable birth control.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking a combination of glecaprevir and pibrentasvir for hepatitis C treatment.

  • Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Do not drink more than 1-2 small glasses of grapefruit juice daily, as large amounts can affect this medicine.
  • If you are taking or have taken fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infection) within the last 7 days, you should temporarily stop taking this medicine due to risk of severe muscle problems.
