How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults and children aged 10 and older is 10 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food, but try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Lipistad is 80 mg once daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nose inflammation, sore throat, nosebleed
  • Allergic reactions
  • Headache
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain
  • Increased blood sugar levels, higher creatine kinase levels in blood
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat and difficulty breathing.
  • Serious skin condition with severe peeling, blisters on skin, mouth, and eyes, and fever.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, muscle tear, or reddish-brown urine, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising, which could be a sign of liver problems.
  • Lupus-like symptoms, such as rash, joint pain, and changes in blood tests.
  • Blocked bile ducts, which can cause yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had liver disease.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. Women who can get pregnant should use effective contraception.
  • Tell your doctor if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, or if anyone in your family has muscle problems.
  • Do not use if you are taking fusidic acid for a bacterial infection. Your doctor will advise when it is safe to restart Lipistad.

  • Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice (more than 1-2 small glasses daily) as it can affect how Lipistad works.
  • Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking this medicine.

Category A
