How to Use

Dosage

Usually 10 mg once a day for adults and children aged 10 and over. Your doctor may adjust the dose as needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food, but try to take them at the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, nosebleeds.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Increased blood sugar (if you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar), increased muscle enzyme levels.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain.
  • Abnormal liver function test results.
  • Loss of appetite, weight gain, low blood sugar (for diabetics).
  • Nightmares, insomnia.
  • Dizziness, numbness or tingling in hands/feet, reduced sensation, memory loss.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Ringing in ears or head noise.
  • Vomiting, burping, stomach pain, inflammation of the pancreas.
  • Liver inflammation.
  • Rash, itching, hives, hair loss.
  • Neck pain, muscle fatigue.
  • Fatigue, malaise, weakness, chest pain, swelling (especially ankles), fever, positive white blood cell test in urine.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, and breathing difficulties.
  • Severe skin condition with skin peeling, blisters on skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals, along with fever.
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain, muscle rupture, or red-brown urine. These can be signs of rhabdomyolysis, a severe muscle condition.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising, which may indicate a liver problem.
  • Lupus-like symptoms (rash, joint pain, changes in blood values).
  • Vision disturbances.
  • Bile duct obstruction (yellowing of skin or eyes).
  • Tendon injury.
  • Lichenoid drug reaction (skin rash or mouth sores).
  • Vasculitis (purple skin lesions).
  • Hearing loss.
  • Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia).
  • Persistent muscle weakness.
  • Myasthenia gravis or ocular myasthenia (muscle weakness that may worsen after activity).
  • Sexual dysfunction.
  • Depression.
  • Breathing problems, persistent cough, or shortness of breath or fever.
  • Diabetes (more common with high blood sugar, high fat levels, overweight, or high blood pressure).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had liver disease or unexplained abnormal liver blood test results.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you are a woman of childbearing age not using reliable contraception.
  • Do not use if you are taking a combination of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for Hepatitis C.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe lung disease, kidney problems, an underactive thyroid, or myasthenia gravis.

  • Tell your doctor if you have had or have unexplained muscle aches or pains, or if a close relative has had muscle problems.
  • If you are taking fusidic acid (a medicine for bacterial infection), you must temporarily stop using Lipistad. Talk to your doctor.
  • Do not drink more than 1-2 small glasses of grapefruit juice per day, as large amounts can affect how the medicine works.
  • Avoid heavy alcohol use while taking this medicine.
  • If you get a severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing), a severe skin reaction (skin peeling, blisters), or muscle weakness, muscle pain, and dark urine (signs of rhabdomyolysis), stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help.

Category A
