How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily.

Method

Take one tablet in the evening, with or without food.

Important

Do not exceed 80 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Muscle problems like pain, tenderness, weakness, and cramps, which can lead to muscle breakdown and kidney damage; very rarely, these symptoms have led to death.
  • Severe allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face, tongue, and throat that makes it hard to breathe, or a strong allergic reaction causing breathing problems or dizziness. Other symptoms can include rash, joint pain, inflammation, unusual bruising, and fever.
  • Liver inflammation (with symptoms like yellow skin and eyes, itching, dark urine, pale stools, tiredness, weakness, loss of appetite); pancreas inflammation with severe stomach pain.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Numbness or weakness in hands and feet.
  • Headache, tingling sensation, dizziness.
  • Blurred vision or impaired vision.
  • Digestive problems, such as stomach pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.
  • Rash, itching, hair loss.
  • Weakness.
  • Abnormal liver function test results and increased muscle enzyme (creatine kinase) levels in blood tests.
  • Memory loss, confusion, insomnia, or memory impairment.
  • Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men).
  • Rash or sores in the mouth.
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Depression.
  • Lung inflammation causing breathing difficulties, cough, or fever.
  • Tendon problems, including tendon rupture.
  • Persistent muscle weakness, myasthenia gravis (general muscle weakness), or ocular myasthenia (eye muscle weakness).
  • Sleep disturbances, such as nightmares.
  • Reduced sexual desire.
  • Diabetes.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Lipcut if you are allergic to simvastatin or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use Lipcut if you have liver disease, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice as it can affect how Lipcut works.
  • Tell your doctor if you drink a lot of alcohol, have kidney disease, thyroid disease, or are over 65 years old.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.

  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as some medicines can increase the risk of serious muscle problems with Lipcut.
  • If you need to take fusidic acid (an antibiotic), you must temporarily stop using Lipcut.
  • If you have myasthenia (muscle weakness), as statins can worsen it.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.4.2023)
